Clissold House
LB Hackney, London
Clissold House is a charming Georgian villa of the 1790’s, set in a well-loved park in Hackney. Large parts of the house were derelict, apart from the café, whose kitchen occupied some of the most important historic rooms. With funding from the HLF, the whole house has been restored, made fully accessible, and converted to accommodate an enlarged café, meeting and function rooms. The surroundings of the house have been transformed with new terraces and pleasure gardens. The front lawn has been returned to a slope to restore the historic appearance of the villa’s Doric portico, situated as if on a grassy knoll.
